Who We Are
WE ARE THE VOICE OF PEEL WORKERS
Peel District CUPE Council 9130 promotes unified organized labour, safeguards worker rights, and engages community members through social activism, political lobbying, mobilization of educational efforts, and outreach team-building.
What We Do
Peel District Cupe Council 9130 is a regional council representing CUPE workers who work in Mississauga, Brampton, Oakville, Milton, Caledon, and Etobicoke. Council represents over 8,000 workers in Peel.
Our members deliver the public services that keep our community strong and live and breathe in the community.
We work together with our locals to advocate for better education and organized labour in the region. We meet monthly to develop action plans and help support the needs of Locals. Outside the day-to-day duties of area businesses, we are here to make a difference on several levels—from lobbying municipal and provincial governing bodies to develop better working conditions and enhancing social conditions for every person living in the region. Council is also active with picket lines and support during labour disputes in our Region.
PRESENCE IN THE COMMUNITIES
The Council is committed to building a stronger presence in the communities we serve. We need to build a network of support from people in the region.
We have worked with community members and supported them in municipal, provincial, and federal elections. Our support varied from members who helped by working on campaigns and by members who ran as candidates.
We also organize charity events such as draws, community outreach programs like regional food banks, etc. The Council acts as a political advocate to ease the pressure of Local executives by attending public meetings to lobby for regional concerns as an outside party to avoid disturbing labour relations.
